My name is Kayla, I am the owner and artist behind Selah Art. Each painting I create I like to think of as a visual prayer shaped by faith, reflection, and the everyday moments where I feel closest to the Lord. My work is grounded in a belief that art can hold space for stillness, invite contemplation, and point toward the presence of God in ordinary life.
Inspiration often begins in silence. I draw from Scripture, the rhythms of worship, and passages of life that demand attention—joy, sorrow, gratitude, and longing. Color, texture, and composition become the language I use to translate spiritual truth into something visible. Sometimes a single verse will guide an entire piece; other times a season of grief or a sudden moment of grace will insist that I respond with paint.
Light plays a central role in my paintings because light speaks of revelation, hope, and the unending mercy of the Lord. I work to balance luminous passages with deeper shadows, not to suggest darkness without hope, but to show how God’s presence makes meaning even in the depths. I often layer washes and glazes, building complexity so the viewer can discover new details over time—much like a life of faith that reveals more of God the longer you walk with Him.
Nature and ordinary things also anchor my work. A well-worn Bible, a window at dawn, exhausted nights holding your miracle that is a child, the comfort of a husband, a tree bending in wind—these images are small sacred things to me. They remind me that God is near in the simplest parts of our days. I aim for paintings that are accessible and contemplative, pieces that invite someone to pause, breathe, and meet the Lord in reflected light or quiet color.
Formally, my process is deliberate and prayerful. I begin with reflection and often a written prayer or phrase that centers my intention. As I paint, I stay attentive to how the piece evolves, allowing space for unexpected shifts that feel like guidance. Each decision—brushstroke, hue, negative space—is weighed against the aim to honor truth and beauty.
My love of the Lord is the heart behind Selah Art. It informs the themes I choose, the patience I bring to making, and the hope I aim to communicate. reminders that God is present, that reflection matters, and that art can be a means of worship.
If a painting catches your eye, I welcome conversation about what moved you in it. The story of grace expressed through color, texture, and light.
